Centenary Celebrations

CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS – THURSDAY 22 APRIL, 2021

100 Years ago the great Windsor Bowls Club was founded.  Today we celebrated a great milestone in the history of Bowls.

Our MC for the day was Alan Brown (Brownie).  He got things going by describing what the special occasion was in front of a large audience.

Councillor Andrew Wines launched the Centenary Booklet.  Cr Wines kindly funded the printing of the booklet which contains many facts and stories from our past. Link to PDF of Booklet.

A short video was also produced to celebrate the Centenary.  This was also kindly funded by a grant from the Lord Mayor’s Community Fund. Link to You Tube Video.

The young and the more senior attended the Ceremony, none more proud than Bev Whitehead, Lottie Redfern and Dot Kennedy (from left to right).  Behind them is our Centenary Banner thanks to the design work done by 13th Beach Marketing.

We were treated to some great singing by the Holy Cross Primary School Choir prior to the start of the Centenary Ceremony followed by a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.

The 4 key speakers for the day, Centenary Chairman Mal Greig, Cr Andrew Wines, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner and Trevor Evans MP also showed off their bowling prowess on the greens.

Some of our great sponsors Michael McMahon (Ray White) and Shannon Volp (Leandlease) were able to attend with Cr Wines and Trevor Evans MP on the edges.

Windsor Bowls Club were honoured to accept Centenary Plaques presented by representatives from Bowls Australia, Bowls Queensland and Brisbane District Bowls Association.

Club stalwarts Lottie Redfern and Kev Trenerry did the honours in cutting the Centenary Cake with expert advice provided by Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner.

After cutting of the cake we were treated to a sumptuous morning tea provided by Gourmet Street Food.  Thanks to Gary and the team.

The day would not have been such a success without all of the helpers.  Here are just a few of many, well dressed in their Centenary shirts.

The day was finished off with a friendly game of bowls with Windsor teams playing all the visiting teams including Bribie Island Bowls Club.

A big thank you to everyone who supported us on the day.

Here’s to the next Century.
