BRISBANE DISTRICT APPRECIATION DAY & AWARDS

WINDSOR AGAIN DOES WELL AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL

The Brisbane District Appreciation Day was held at Gaythorne Bowls Club last Sunday with Windsor Bowls Club being very well represented in the running of the BDBA.  Those present were Alan Brown the Director & Secretary of the Men’s Section, Denice McLean the Secretary of the Ladies Section, Sue O’Toole the Chair of the Ladies Selection Committee and Pauline Okon the Chair of the Umpire’s Committee. Margaret Cork who is also on the Match Committee had a prior engagement to attend.

A friendly game of bowls was played for a few hours during the morning followed by a very enjoyable lunch.  Geoff Manser, the Chairman of the BDBA, acknowledged all the work that had been done by the members of the respective District Committees by presenting each person with a small gift.

Then it was time for the announcement of the Ladies District Player of the Year and our own Sue O’Toole was presented with the Trophy for 2017.  The Men’s Section did not announce a Player of the Year for 2017 as only a couple of District Championships were actually played during the year.  Sue’s District achievements were announced to the audience as well as her selection in the Qld Ladies Senior Side who won the trophy again in 2017 for the third consecutive year.

A team from Windsor also attended the event and they were Trevor Winters, Barbara McInnes and Mark Catchpole.  A good day was had by all.

Alan Brown read out the success of players in the Brisbane District who achieved honours above district level.  It was quite surprising the number of 2017 achievements, by Brisbane District players, considering we are such a small district.
